The Office of Research and Creative Activities (ORCA) sponsors an annual program awarding mentoring grants to qualifying students to assist them with undergraduate research or creative activities. This year the total award amount has been increased to $1,800; students receive $1,500; the mentor receives $300.
In the 2013 school year, ORCA handed out nearly 300 awards totaling $482,000 for undergraduate research and creative activities. In addition, more than $1.34 million in Mentored Environment Grants and matching grants were distributed to 72 faculty members for projects involving undergraduates.
Overall, more than 30 percent of students have done research as an undergraduate student.
